High & Complex Needs Advisor
Full-time role | Youth and Adult Services
Based in Dunedin Ōtepoti
We’re really pleased to be looking for a full-time High & Complex Needs Advisor to join our team here in Dunedin. This is a role where your values matter just as much as your experience — we’re looking for someone who naturally aligns with who we are at Community Care Trust Aotearoa: respectful, reliable, transparent, and responsive in the way you work with others.
Who we are | Ko wai mātou
At Community Care Trust Aotearoa, we believe in a world that truly values and celebrates diversity. Across the South Island, we work alongside adults and young people who need some extra support to reach their goals. Our approach is simple — we walk alongside people so they can live the life they choose, build meaningful connections, and be valued members of their communities.
Keeping tamariki and vulnerable adults safe is a core part of who we are, and all staff go through vetting appropriate to their role.
About the role | He kōrero mō te tūranga
In this role, you’ll be working closely with a wide circle of people — support staff, whānau, schools, and other professionals — to support individuals with high and complex needs. Day to day, that might look like helping someone build practical life skills, supporting them with education or vocational goals, encouraging participation in their community, strengthening relationships, and developing strategies to navigate everyday challenges.
A big part of the role is creating an environment where people feel safe, supported, and able to grow at their own pace. You’ll enjoy building genuine connections — both with the people you support and with those around them — and you’ll bring a calm, thoughtful approach to your work.
You’ll have an understanding of Enabling Good Lives and a genuine belief in supporting people to live a “good life” on their own terms. You’ll know how to walk alongside someone, recognising it’s their journey, while offering the right support at the right time.
Our Dunedin services include a mix of supports such as housing, individual care responses in 24/7 environments, and community-based support in homes, schools, and the wider community.
This work may involve care management for our RIDSAS services, as well as providing behavioural advice for children and adults.
This is a full-time salaried role, usually worked Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. You’ll also be part of an on-call roster for Crisis Behaviour Support, and occasionally there’s a need for flexibility outside standard hours. Some travel to other regions is part of the role too.
What you’ll bring | Ngā pūkenga mō tēnei tūranga
You’ll have experience working in youth, disability, or mental health services, along with a good understanding of trauma-informed approaches. You’re someone who takes a proactive, person-centred approach and communicates clearly, building strong, respectful relationships with the people you support and those around them.
You’ll feel confident advocating for others in professional settings, and you’ll be comfortable with report writing and using tools like Microsoft Office. Experience supporting or guiding others in their work is valuable, as is at least a year’s experience in behaviour support or similar services. A relevant tertiary qualification will support your application, A degree in psychology, education, nursing or similar is required for this role, along with a solid understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
To work with us, you’ll need to hold (or be willing to complete) a First Aid Certificate, have the right to work in New Zealand with at least 12 months remaining on your visa, and hold a full, clean New Zealand driver licence.
Just a heads up — we’re not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
